Nintendo partners with Universal Parks and Resorts

Nintendo roller coasters are coming.

The Japanese gaming tycoon is teaming up with Universal Parks & Resorts to bring much loved video game characters like Mario, Link, and Donkey Kong to Universal’s theme parks.

Tom Schroder, a Universal execuitve, said in a press release,

“The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games.”

Nintendo fans are salivating at the idea of a Mario Kart amusement park ride: Imagine whipping first-person through a life-size Bowser’s castle while avoiding shells, ducking flamethrowers and sliding under these guys:

What about some type of Temple-of-Doom-style Zelda ride? Navigating the halls of Hyrule, desperately trying to rescue the princess while the castle crumbles around you? The possibilities do seem pretty epic.

It’s no coincidence that news of this partnership is coming at a time when Nintendo is in desperate need of renaissance; the once dominant gaming company has struggled to compete with rivals Sony and Microsoft in recent years. According to Business Insider, Nintendo’s revenue and market shares have been on a steady decline since 2010.
